On Childhood Toys and Boys Toys For Grown Men

Nowadays, if you asked me what kind of "toys" I played with (as a 38 year old bloke), I'd have to say that I like to go to an Oulton Park driving experience and get behind the wheel of an Audi R8 or even a Ferrari. That's what I call play time!

But I want to reflect on my childhood for a moment.

I had a fascination for superheroes. My favourite superhero was Batman because I grew up watching the famous movies starring Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney. Naturally, I pestered my parents to buy me Batman toys. Every time my parents went out of town, they would buy me a Batman toy. When the movie ‘Batman Forever’ came out, I started to grown an obsession for Batman and his sidekick Robin. My grandparents also bought me costumes of the 'Caped Crusader' when they came home from the United States. My brother and I would dress up as Batman and Robin, play with the toys and have our pictures taken.

My family used to celebrate a Hindu festival where dolls resembling Gods would be arranged and prayers would be sung. My love for Batman was such that I pestered my parents to put my Batman toy as well with the dolls of Gods. Several years on, I remember the happy memories every time I look at my collection of Batman toys, which I still preserve.
